How to Quickly and Safely Jump Start Another Car

Here are the steps to quickly and safely jump-start another car. Get the two cars as close to one another so the cables easily reach both batteries. Open the hood after the cars are both in park and turned off. Identify the positive and negative sides of each battery.

The red jumper cable goes to positive on the bad battery first, then do the same to the good battery. The black jumper cable goes to negative on the good battery first, then the other black cable to a bare metal surface on the car getting a jump. Start the car, then the disabled car, and once started, you can remove the cables in the opposite order you placed them on the batteries.

If you ever need to jump-start your vehicle, this is a sign of trouble with the battery and should be brought to a trusted auto service center in Tupelo so we can properly service it for you.
